Sessions

Halcy-Con 2025 will feature 80+ hours of engaging sessions designed to educate, inspire, energize, and connect attendees. Here’s what you can look forward to:

Panels

A panel session features 3-5 attendees in conversation on a particular topic of their shared expertise or interest, led by a moderator.

Examples from 2024:

  • Dressing Like the Stars: The Starcruiser introduced a whole cast of new characters for cosplaying. In this panel, cosplayers will discuss how they re-created the costumes of the Sajas, Blueshirts, and characters like Captain Keevan! Come hear about their process and get tips for creating your own Starcruiser cosplay.
  • How I Became a Better Crafter: The influx of in universe crafters has skyrocketed since the March 1 sailing.  While many of us were already accomplished crafters we took those skills to make costumes, accessories and swag.  A panel discussion will provide the opportunity for makers to share their best practices.
  • Working in Immersive Entertainment: What’s it like to work in an immersive environment like the Galactic Starcruiser, whether on-stage or behind the scenes? How do these experiences get built, from blue-sky ideas through the process of writing, design, and production? And how do you get into this kind of work, anyway? Professionals in the field will share their experiences and insights!

Presentations

A presentation features the expertise of a single speaker or two co-speakers. This might be something like an academic paper, an in-depth exploration of a community project, or even a character giving an in-world presentation!

Examples from 2024:

  • Build-a-Bound: Finding your persona from a galaxy far far away: Many passengers on the Halcyon came outfitted in all their glory according to their personal backgrounds. Learn from lifelong Star Wars fans and committed costumers on how they designed their ensembles for their original characters, and how you too can find your alter-ego from a galaxy far, far away!
  • Halcyon Daze: The Final Voyages of Disney’s Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser: Premier Selection from the Project in Progress: This panel will feature Halcyon Daze documentary team members’ brief discussion of our work as well as project updates. The panel will also feature select work from the film in progress. After, we will offer a brief Q and A session as well as the potential for audience members, with their consent, to be recorded together. As one! For a community film shot.
  • Starcruiser Progenitor: Sleep No More: The Galactic Starcruiser roots are vast but draw a direct lineage to Punchdrunk shows, Disney’s Adventurers Club and immersive experiences in general. In this audio-visual presentation, we will take a look at the granddaddy of them all, Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More, its impact on interactive and immersive theatre in general, and Galactic Starcruiser in specific. Attendees will receive an iconic Punchdrunk mask, a glimpse into the show, and might discover more to Sleep No More than they ever dreamt of!

Meet-Ups

A meet-up is a chance for attendees to get together, share their experiences, reminisce, and have some laughs or shed some nostalgic tears, with a conversation guided by a moderator who will provide questions and keep things on-target.

Examples from 2024:

  • Bringing the Starcruiser to Batuu: The Halcyon may no longer have Batuu as a port of call, but its erstwhile passengers still frequent the land of the three suns! How have you brought your Starcruiser character or fannish energy to Batuu since your voyage? Come share your experiences – or, if you’re hoping to visit Batuu in the future, to get tips on integrating your voyage with your upcoming planetary excursions.
  • How to Scratch That Itch: Interactive experiences available beyond Starcruiser: Have you attended LARPs, interactive art installations, or other interactive experiences? Looking for something to do? Drop by this round table discussion to share your experiences with everyone and/or get ideas and information for your next experience!
  • LGBTQ+ Experience Aboard the Halcyon: Did they really go there? They really went there. While the Galactic Starcruiser has had a profound impact upon so many passengers, there were certain breathtaking story moments that unexpectedly spoke directly to marginalized communities. Join us for an LGBTQ+ safe space to share how the experience moved you.

Workshops

A workshop is hands-on for attendees, usually teaching some sort of skill or providing the opportunity for artistic creation. This might be anything from professional training to lightsaber sparring practice to “space camp arts and crafts”!

Examples from 2024:

  • Introduction to Interactive Performance: Dive into the world of Interactive Performance with the esteemed Jeff Wirth, a pioneer in the field. This engaging workshop goes beyond traditional improvisation, focusing on connection, improvisation, and ensemble team building. Participants will learn techniques to create authentic, meaningful interactions that transcend the stage, fostering deeper connections with audiences and fellow performers alike. Whether you’re an experienced actor or new to interactive performance, this session will provide valuable insights and practical tools to enhance your skills and craft memorable, immersive experiences.
  • Morning Saja-Inspired Meditation: Start the day by connecting to fellow travelers and oneself through the Force. Using the teachings of the Saja, participants will be guided to connect with the Force and explore their connection with all living beings. No experience or Force sensitivity is required.
  • Saja Lightsaber Training: Build on your Training Pod experience with an expanded movement set that includes offensive and defensive katas and controlled sparring against a partner (foam weapons provided, or use your own lightsaber at your own risk). Two newly-accepted Saja, Atin Kal and Tesh-Ka, bring their combat lightsaber experience and a crate of familiar stones to share with participants.  But what will happen when these Saja disagree about how fully to explore the Force?

Games / Interactive

Games and Interactive sessions provide a chance for attendees to play! These might be straightforward board games or card games inspired by a galaxy far, far away – or they might be in-universe experiences, challenging attendees to problem-solve in imaginative ways!

Examples from 2024:

  • Shuttle of Spies: Your transport shuttle has received an emergency transmission – Lt Croy is waiting to arrest a spy that has infiltrated the First Order!  The chain code has been scrambled by the Resistance and it is now down to 4 people on YOUR shuttle – it could even be you!
  • The Syndicate – An Exercise in Galactic Knowledge and Information: Think you have what it takes to join the Syndicate? Join us for an interactive session exploring how much you know about the Star Wars universe and the characters that live in it. You never know where it might lead…

The Trial of Lt. Croy: The activities of Lt. Croy onboard the Halcyon have come to the attention of the First Order and he has been court-martialed. Croy escapes and remains at large.  A trial commences in his absence to determine whether Croy is guilty of treason to the Order and guests of the Halcyon’s 275th Anniversary cruise have been called to give witness. The audience will act as the jury to determine Lt. Croy ‘s fate: Loyal officer of the First Order or Traitor to the cause. You decide.
